On Friday, Laura and I were tasked with removing rocks from the path of a new handicap accessible trail we are working on at Reimer’s Ranch. Most of the rocks were taken care of with a pick and rock bars, but the rest had to be destroyed. Instead of having another machine come in and tear up the land, we decided to do it by hand. It was fairly brutal work. My callouses on my hands came off (under my gloves), rock pieces flew all around, Laura’s hands swelled up, and the next day mine were immovable. Through all the pain that our bodies took, the rocks took the same, and we cleared it out. Overall a really rewarding and successful day on the sledge hammer, or doublejack as we like to call it.
